Crash-David Cronenberg
Today, we are writing about movies, but before starting, I have to clarify that this one is not one of my favourites, and im not specially attached to the director, anyways, it has been wandering in my head from time to time since I watched it.
Crash is a one of a kind movie, it starts with the story of James Ballard and his wife Catherine, a couple involved in an open marriage. We can see them at the beginning of the movie seeking for sexual experiences with their co-workers, but failling miserably as they try to revive an unpleasent erotical life. After we watch them discuss of these affairs, there is a scene where James is driving back home from work and gets involved in a horrible car accident. James and the female co-pilot from the other car gets barely wounded, but the male driver is dead. Moments after the crash, the women, who´s trapped in the car in front of James, shows him one of her breasts.
While both are recovering at the hospital, they start to uncover the truth behind the sexual arousement that the accident provoked in them. James and the women, named Helen, start a relationship that leads them to a man named Vaughan, who is involved in a group of people that re-creates famous car crashes. Later on, Catherine, James wife, will also take part on the group actions, that involves taking pictures of people and cars at the crash sites, fetishizing scars, violence and extreme behaviour, and sexualizing death.
The movie feels kind of strange from time to time, and it lacks of a guide in some moments, but its uniqueness and the interesting way of developing the relation between life. sex and death is completely worth giving a try.
